Sandyjumelage - Joueur de pétanque

My name is Sandy Howden and I am the President of Dalkeith Petanque Club with Dalkeith being the twin town of Jarnac. I started Dalkeith Petanque Club last August 3 years after I moved through our neighbor Newtongrange Petanque Club. I raised the funds for both and steered through both projects. Newtongrange now have in 3 years about 6 or 7 players playing for Scotland. One of them coming over to France in July. My club in Dalkeith has 49 members and growing. We have just finished our 3rd in house competition. We also joined the Lothian and Borders League of 10 which plays league games every 3rd Saturday morning. For 3 years since my projects started I have been wanting to form a connection with Jarnac and the Charente region. We have been invited over next week and we are delighted to bring over 8 players on Saturday 31st May for 1 week to explore the Petanque world in the Charente. Jarnac Petanque Sport and the Jarnac Twinning and the Jarnac Sports Minister have laid out a short program for us and we have some time to fill in. Hopefully by playing friendly games around Jarnac. We can play against or mix with each other. We don't mind. My 2 ventures in building pistes in Midlothian started when I was asked by an keen petanque player on how to connect the Jumelage with Petanque. My answer was you need a piste first. This part is more than complete. I am looking to make the connection as a sort of Petanque Jumelage whereby clubs could send over a team or teams at conveniant times in both petanque calendars and enjoy the "Entente Cordiale" we have had with each other for hundreds of years. We actually play in a yearly club game with 5 other Twinning groups in East and Mid Lothian. Its called "The Auld Alliance cup". Haddington in East Lothian is twinned with Aubigny in N. France and they have a strong history that goes back hundreds of years.. Our facebook site is

She is 70 on June 8th and we are spending the Sunday in Jarnac with friends before we return home on the 9th to drive back to Scotland. She first visited Jarnac with the schools when she was 14 and spoke fluent French. I can order beer lol. She is part of the party.
